It’s easy to get caught up in skin-damaging activities. The good news is that you can reverse some of the dryness and damage you may have already caused. Here are four simple steps to glowing, beautiful skin that will look great through the decades.
Skip the sun
Sure, a tan can give you a healthy, glowing look, but considering the side effects, tanning on a regular basis is hardly worth the benefit. Don’t be afraid to do normal activities in the sun, just make sure to protect yourself. Using sunscreen on your entire body and wearing protective clothing will prevent the early onset of wrinkles and skin-damaging sunburns. Avoid tanning beds at all costs. They’re addictive, expensive, and can only lead to serious skin damage down the road.
Drink water and eat right
Yeah, yeah. You hear it all the time, but moisture really helps the skin look healthy. It’s important to moisturize on the inside, too. Drinking water gives the skin a certain youthful glow. Plus, it gives you more energy to do the activities you need to get done throughout the day. Eating a diet packed with fruits and vegetables will help bring out a healthy look to your skin, too — thanks to all of those vitamins!
It’s important to maintain a balance of good oils in your skin, so don’t cleanse too often in an attempt to “scrub” acne or impurities away. Only cleanse when it’s necessary — like to remove makeup every night before you fall asleep. Removing foreign products from your pores before you get reparative sleep will help prevent bad breakouts or blackheads. In the morning, gauge whether you need to actually wash again. Washing too often can dry out skin, causing it to break out even worse.
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
It just can’t be recommended enough. Keeping a proper balance of moisture on your skin, especially around your eyes, helps prevent aging. It also makes your skin feel more comfortable and natural. Moisturized skin looks healthier, and you’ll even notice a dramatic improvement in your look after you apply makeup. Each night, pat moisturizer (it doesn’t necessarily have to be anti-aging) around your eyes and rub a small amount into the rest of your skin. After a morning shower, apply a very light moisturizer that will improve the look of your makeup without making you look greasy by midday.
