It seems that clothing retailer Abercrombie & Fitch is no fan of the Jersey Shore. How do we know? A rep for the retailer revealed that they’re offering Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino a “substantial” amount of cash to stop wearing their clothes.
“We are deeply concerned that Mr. Sorrentino’s association with our brand could cause significant damage to our image. We understand that the show is for entertainment purposes, but believe this association is contrary to the aspirational nature of our brand, and may be distressing to many of our fans,” the Ohio-based retailer said in a statement. “We have therefore offered a substantial payment to Michael ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino and the producers of MTV’s The Jersey Shore to have the character wear an alternate brand. We have also extended this offer to other members of the cast, and are urgently waiting a response.”
Excuse us while we laugh uncontrollably for the next three hours.
Okay, this has to be the best news we’ve read all day. We’re used to the cast getting offered ridiculous amounts of money to shill for clothing companies and other money-hungry brands. The show has helped the cast of Guidos and Guidettes all become multi-millionaires for hooking up with Grenades and getting their GTL on.
We’ve reached out to The Sitch’s rep for comment.
“Abercrombie & Fitch, their most popular shirt, they told me, is ‘Fitchuation.’ I mean, where did they get that from? Obviously from myself,” Sorrentino told New York magazine last year.
We do have a question for A&F, though: So, it’s okay to use underage-looking and half-naked models for your advertisements, but it’s not okay for The Situation and Snooki to wear your clothes? We guess it’s time for a brand re-alignment, A&F execs.
Don’t worry, Sitch: We’re sure Ed Hardy or Christian Audigier would love to have you wear their brands.
