Slowly Going Green: Learning to live green, week-by-week

For the past seven weeks, I’ve written about small changes you can make to green up your life, one step at a time. If you’ve taken any of these steps, congratulations — you’ve slowly started to green your life! This week, I’d like to recap all of the little things you can do that add up to make a big, earth-friendly difference.

Woman going green

1Making the cleaning product switch

Contrary to what I’d always believed, you don’t have to use environmentally damaging and unhealthy chemicals to clean your home. Natural products are just as good and kill germs — but not the earth (or you). Learn what products are green, wallet-friendly and work well.

2Stop wasting water

The average American uses 1,190 gallons of water each day. Find out how many gallons you use, as well as how you can cut back. Little things like turning the water off when you brush your teeth can make a big difference.

3Use this, not that

Paper towels, plastic sandwich bags and grocery bags are huge landfill and environmental hazards. You can purchase inexpensive, cute alternatives to sandwich bags and grocery sacks. And paper towels are easily replaced. Find out what you can do to cut down on unnecessary waste.

4Raising green kids

In this day and age, we should all be naturally raising green kids. It’s a matter of modeling the right kind of habits, talking about green living and making it fun. Are your kids green?

5Do this, not that

Not all parts of greening up your life are glamorous. Read this for some toilet talk, light bulb tips and faucet info! While these may not be fun, they are easy ways to make positive environmental changes.

6Making green living trendy

Purchasing green products for your home doesn’t mean sacrificing style for the environment. In fact, you can live green and trendy at the same time. With the level of awareness increasing, more and more companies are creating green products that look great. Try a few for your kitchen.

7Eco-friendly home redecorating

Green paint, green furniture, green consulting services — did you have any idea there were so many ways to be environmentally conscious when redecorating your home? I didn’t! Check out a few of the tips I gathered for green redecorating.

And that’s the end of our series! Thank you so much for reading along. I hope that these ideas have helped you make a few changes. It all adds up in the end.
