Actress Salma Hayek is launching her line of Nuance cosmetics at CVS stores this summer. Hayek, 44, told Women’s Wear Daily that her Nuance makeup and skincare products will hit shelves at the discount pharmacy in August.
Hayek’s Nuance — a collection of about 100 items — will all be priced at or below $20. So, why did she choose to go the discount route instead of mimicking other celebrities who opt for higher-end stores for their cosmetics line?
“It is possible to create extraordinary product for a low price. Everyone should have the right product at the right price. A lot of products don’t even cost a lot to make. I wanted to make simply the best product and give everyone access to the good stuff,” Hayek told WWD of why she made the line.
Hayek said she even put her acting career on hold to create Nuance.
“This is not something that required 14 hours. Nooo, baby. This has been a full-time job,” Hayek continued.
The actress found inspiration for her new cosmetics line from her grandmother, a former cosmetologist who studied at Vichy in Paris. The products will contain inexpensive ingredients used by Mexican women for centuries to combat skin problems, including the moisturizing tepezcohuite and concha nacar, a skin-lightening agent.
“We’ve researched for two to three years. My grandmother was a cosmetologist and she used to make her own creams, but my whole approach is how can we get the essence of the really expensive ones, but for everyone to be able to afford,” Hayek said.
