Kate Middleton’s feathered head piece

On Thursday, the princess bride, Kate Middleton, sported a funky feathered headpiece at the launch of a new lifeboat “Hereford Endeavour” in Wales.

Her bird-like head brooch fit in seamlessly with her famous elegant-meets-effortless style. Along with the nest on top of her head, Kate wore an off-the-rack tailored camel jacket (that retails for $1,200), a brown scarf and gloves.

But the talk of the hour was that feathered headpiece worn atop a nest of coiffured curls. While this was a simple departure from Middleton’s usual soft, simple wavy hair, we guess you can’t rock the fashion boat too much when you’re a princess on deck, right?

We consulted our fashionistas to find out what the feathered hair piece on Kate Middleton’s head is called: it’s referred to as a “fascinator,” and it’s a fancy cousin to the beret, with an elaborate decoration designed to draw the eye.

It was custom made for Middleton by Vivien Sherrif Millinery, an English designer known for creating kooky head gear. Hmm… maybe this is a preview to the veil Middleton might wear come her royal wedding to Will in April?

Are the feathers the newest wedding fashion trend?

According to People:

“The princess-to-be’s beret included an antique cameo, pheasant feathers and something perfectly appropriate for the future daughter-in-law of the Prince of Wales– Welsh military metals.”

What do you think of Kate Middleton’s feathered friend?
