The mayor of an Italian town wants to put a mini skirt ban on the books, and local female politicians are speaking out. You won’t believe what else he’s trying to ban.
Italians love la bella vita, but the beautiful life might not include bare legs if an Italian mayor gets his way.
Castellammare di Stabia Mayor Luigi Bobbio is proposing a mini skirt ban designed to “restore urban decorum and facilitate better civil co-existence” in his town near Naples. The ban would forbid other revealing bottoms, including shorts.
“It’s a matter of common sense — of common decency,” he says.
Mayor Bobbio apparently isn’t a fan of self-expression. He’s also looking to ban other ideas and activities, such as blasphemy (um, OK), all forms of sunbathing (what!) and soccer on public grounds (seriously?).
Violate one of his rules, including the mini skirt ban, and you’ll be looking at a fine of $35 to $700.
Female politicians in Castellammare protested Monday in front of city hall and invited women to show up wearing mini skirts. Here’s hoping they made a good impression.
If passed, the mini skirt ban will go into effect immediately.
