Apple has some new competition for their wildly popular iPad: The Blackberry PlayBook.
Blackberry’s parent company, Research in Motion, made the announcement yesterday at its DevCon conference. The Playbook boasts a pretty impressive list of features, including a 1-Ghz Dual-cortex A9 processor, a gigabyte of RAM and either 34 or 64 GB of storage space. Attendees also sang the praises of the graphics of the 7-inch Playbook. Users will also be able to type, similarly to the iPad.
Other specifications include:
- HDMI video playback
- Bluetooth capabilities
- Ultra-thin design
- Open platform system with the new Blackberry WebWorks platform
Despite the impressive details, it’s unclear how the PlayBook works from a user’s perspective. Blackberry officials held up a working prototype, but wouldn’t let reporters near it to check it out.
