Ah, aging. Isn’t it fantastic? In some cultures aging is a privileged rite of passage that brings with it honor and added respect. We may not be there quite yet, but we can definitely start by looking and feeling our best as the years go by.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation (SCF), about 90% of non-melanoma skin cancers are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun
and up to 90% of the visible changes commonly attributed to aging are caused by the sun. In our 20s, we do not yet see the effects of UV exposure on our skin because our cells turnover at a
relatively quick rate. This often leads to a false sense of security. Tanning beds, a lack of sunscreen and a lackadaisical approach to sun avoidance all contribute to long-term aging. The best
strategy in your 20s is to wear sunscreen, avoid long-term sun exposure and start a solid cleansing routine.
Try: ColorScience Sunforgettable SPF 30 Brush ($49)
This is the time to experiment with color and makeup trends. For many of us, our skin looks its best in our 20s, so there is no need to pile on the foundation and concealer. Bronzers and tinted
moisturizers are excellent tools that provide just enough shimmer and coverage while letting your natural glow shine through. Neutral lipgloss helps keep the focus on your skin so avoid lip sticks,
especially in darker shades.
Try: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Shine City ($7)
In your 20s, your hair is probably at its thickest and most healthy. Again, this is a great time to experiment with your cut and color, but keep your professional and personal goals in mind. If
you’ve always wanted to chop it all off and try a pixie cut or want to go blond, this may be the time to do it.
Although your 20s represent a bridge from your youth to your adult life, resist the urge to hang on your teenage style. While you can pull off mini versions of shorts and skirts, make sure you
choose appropriately. If you are going short, go frilly as well, rather than tight. This can transition your choice from inappropriate to stylish. You can get away with showing a little more skin
in the form of asymmetric necklines and tank tops in your 20s.
