Hot spring & summer fashion

Girlie fashions are in, white is the new black, dresses are hotter than ever, and this season’s looks call for ultra-feminine patterns and styles. Shopping has never been more fun as we rev up for the coolest in hot summer styles yet!

The bottom line

“There is an ongoing demand for the skinny leg pant,” Sara Rogers says. The full leg trouser, a.k.a. the boyfriend pant, is also on point in terms of style. Shorts, a perennial favorite for summer, are at the forefront of fashion for spring/summer 2007. Styles range from Bermuda length to short short and are mostly flat-front. They are often sized byinseam and look exceptionally modern with shapes like the trapeze top and the cropped jacket layered with the baby doll. You’ll also find shorts partnered with jackets for an updated suited look. Cropped pants remain on the horizon as well.

The hottest in sizzling denim comes from Kasil ( and Fidelity Denim ( this summer. Kasil Jeans’ Alexandria cropped jeans fit slim and slender, a perfect mate to the season’s newest baby doll and sandal styles. Fidelity, too, has some great cropped looks, including lightweight and denim gauchos and a tribute to the white-denim craze with fitted denim jackets, jeans, and mini skirts in Paradise and Adore styles. Their Chameleon cropped in pink is the perfect pastel spring addition (indeed, addiction), while the Belladonna dark-wash denim capris are a perfect match for your favorite designer flip-flops.

What’s up on top

The white shirt is often considered the quintessential wardrobe staple. This season, designers and manufacturers have revamped this silhouette with clever nuances, i.e. ruffles, puffed sleeves, button detail, feminine fabrics, wrap style, banded collars, plunging V-necks, and more. Says Michelle Antonelli, “This is the season for anything but the basic t-shirt. Puffed sleeves, scooped necklines, ruching, tunic length and pleating are a few of the standouts.”

Rogers suggests that if you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe, consider investing in a few of the eye-catching tops in store this season. “One of the emerging trends is the baby doll top. If you need a little more forgiveness in the tummy area, consider stocking up on this trend as it will hide a multitude of sins.” The tunic-length top is an ongoing trend that is showing no sign of slowing down. “In the right fabric, it’s an excellent choice for dissecting the backside and camouflaging hips and saddle bags.”

“Shape is another important summer story,” Antonelli adds. “Women who experiment with a baby doll or trapeze knit top will quickly see how these easy-to-wear shapes give them a new look and instant wardrobe update.”

Gimme a T!

Is your hot new tee a fit for the season? Most definitely. “Tees and tanks will dominate the warmer months and will cover the gamut of fashion — pair with a terry Juicy Couture skirt or marry with Matthew Williamson white skinny trousers… you are sure to have an award-winning outfit,” promises Christina Carathanassis.

Even the tees this summer have a new spin on them. Playboy’s fun spring and summer apparel include t-shirts designed by bands chosen for the company’s Rock the Rabbit initiative. The musical groups put their own unique spin on the classic Playboy Rabbit Head and came up with cool new t-shirt designs. The line also includes tees of vintage magazine covers and sublimation prints, as well as designs co-branded with Topless California inspired by the Femlin character from the magazine’s party jokes section.

And hipster-favorite t-shirt line, Local Celebrity (, has launched a new “RespectYour Mother” campaign of organic earth-friendly cotton tees that is already becoming a hot Spring trend across the nation. Proceeds from RYM shirts are being donated to Global Green USA. Also topping the radar scale, True Love and False Idols ( is debuting their women’s line of street couture, already being featured on America’s Next Top Model. This New York girl’s favorite tee of all? “If LA Is a Whore, then NY Is a Slut.” Indeed.

A fresh coat

Another hot look this spring and summer is the trench coat, which, to many, is already considered a wardrobe staple. This season, designers are taking it to the next level with an extended array of styles from which to choose. “This traditionally classic silhouette is being highlighted with everything from a cropped length to 3/4-length sleeves — it’s all in the details,” Sara Rogers predicts.
