Expert Tips: Shoe trends for spring

Shawn Ward and Shane Ward are co-founders of Detny Shoe Company. Detny shoes are very different from many designer shoes in that their goal was to design a shoe that combines fashion and athletic comfort. This is achieved by incorporating a specially designed patent-pending Luxury Liner Insole into every Detny shoe.

Detny offers everything from women’s Mary Jane styles to men’s casual boots. In Spring 2007, Detny launched a higher end collection that offers everything from 4-inch women’s heels to dressy, yet hip men’s loafers.
Detny is a rapidly expanding New York based shoe label in more than 100 American boutiques as well as stores in 8 European countries.
Shawn and Shane were most recently featured in People Magazine, Black Enterprise, dBusiness and Gotham. Their shoes have been featured in O’ The Oprah Magazine, Ebony, Vibe, The Detroit News, Strut and Footwear Plus.

We asked Shawn and Shane about the most interesting footwear trends that are emerging for Spring 2008. Here’s what they said:

For Men:

Rock & Roll inspired slip-ons. Not the traditional Western look, but rather a shoe that utilizes metal rivet detailing along with distressed leathers to provide the ultimate in rugged-chic. Men love the overall shape and the heel height of the Western cut, but are now looking for a more unique style that gives them those basic elements that they can wear with a more fitted pant.

For Women:

Transparent covered platforms. The concept is an evolution of the covered platform, but the transparent quality of the upper material allows the platform color to peep through, visually creating a third texture.

Five Must-Have Shoe Styles for Every Woman:

  • 4-inch peep-toe pump
  • 4-inch “booty”
  • 3-inch sporty wedge
  • Knee high flat boot
  • Sport casual flat
