Could Barack and Michelle Obama make the leap to Los Angeles? And if they do, will they really live in a mansion that features an open-air aquarium filled with sharks? These are the questions plaguing our minds this morning following Michelle’s brief stay in a $22.9 million, 13,000-square-foot luxurious home this week.
According to TMZ, Michelle spent the night in the seven-bedroom, 12-bathroom Doheny Estates home nestled in the Hollywood Hills. How much she spent renting the decked out, luxurious home isn’t known, but if TMZ’s source is correct, we might know the reason why she was in Los Angeles: She could be home-hunting for a move out west. She and Obama will soon be empty-nesters, after all.
Built in 2018, the Los Angeles pad has everything: floor-to-ceiling glass walls, two swimming pools, a full spa and wellness center, a gym, a movie theater, a walk-in wine room and an entertainment area with a tequila and vodka freezer. But the most unique feature is, without a doubt, the open-air shark aquarium. According to Curbed Los Angeles, the aquarium is an uncovered 300-gallon tank filled with stingrays, starfish, small houndsharks and other types of sharks.
Listed by Tomer Fridman of Compass and Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency, the three-story modern home also comes equipped with state-of-the-art smart house technology and imported and Italian handcrafted materials throughout, among other features.
It isn’t completely out of the question for Michelle and Barack to pack up their belongings and relocate. The couple teamed up with Netflix to produce films and TV shows, so the location would be ideal. According to reports, the content the Obamas will produce include scripted and unscripted series, docuseries, documentaries and features.
“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others. Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership,” Michelle says.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens!
