If you’ve ever fantasized about living the luxe life on the beaches of California, chances are you’ve tuned into HBO’s Big Little Lies to see how it’s done. Of course, as we’ve seen on the show, things aren’t always what they seem — and that includes Reese Witherspoon’s character’s house. On the show, the resplendent oceanfront mansion is located in Monterey Bay, but in real life, it’s in Malibu, an exclusive beach community to the northwest of Los Angeles. The good news? It’s available to rent!
Finally, you can live out your dreams of being a badass blond like Madeline Mackenzie herself. The stately home clocks in at a whopping 6,000 square feet and has sweeping ocean views from the dining room, kitchen, living room and master bedroom, with two balcony porches and an outdoor entertaining area in the backyard, which features a sandy trail leading to an 80-foot swath of near-private beach.
The price per night is a little steep for your average family vacation. It’ll cost you between $3,000-$5,000 a night. Thankfully, there’s plenty of room. The house has seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms, including two master suites, so you could theoretically split the house with a group of friends to bring down the cost. The only thing left to do is fight over who gets which master suite – one has a private balcony and a fireplace outside so you can stay warm while enjoying the crashing surf at night, while the other has a romantic jacuzzi on the deck.
In case that’s not quite enough space for you, there’s also a 950-square foot guest house, perfect for couples who want a little privacy from the group (or you could make all the kids stay there so that the grownups can go Big Little Lies-style buckwild on vacation. Minus the murder, abuse, and, well, lies).
The grass is always greener on the other side, and while we probably wouldn’t actually want to live the truly stressful life of Witherspoon’s Mackenzie, for the right price we can at least soak up some luxury in her glorious beach house.
