If you’re looking to change up your hair for the summer season with something bright and fun, but you’re not ready to commit to mermaid hair or a funky undercut (or perhaps work would have your head if you did), then the hair trend you’ve been holding out for is here.

Say hello to underlights.

It’s basically the new way to wear unicorn-approved hair, but in secret. The process involves colouring the underside of your hair in the bright colours of the rainbow, and the results are absolutely stunning.

You can pin the top layers of your hair so that only your rainbow locks show…

๐Ÿ’ฅTHE BIG SHOW๐Ÿ’ฅ @Regrann from @rubydevine – ๐Ÿ’ฅTHE BIG SHOW๐Ÿ’ฅ What you've all been waiting for. This 9 hour color makeover was SOO worth the work and wait! Thank GOD for #olaplex I hardly had to cut anything off. Although, we opted for some more layers to help lighten her load and accent her new fun color pallet. This process started at our consult almost a month before her appointment date. I started her on a regiment of clarifying her hair regularly and conditioning treatments to help fade her preexisting pigment as much as possible and increase health for the impending processes we were going to be doing. The day of: 1st: we did an application of #Vanish (a color remover) 2: lightener and shampoo with 10vol at the bowl for 10 min avoiding the 4 inches of regrowth 3: virgin lightener application. Using #goldwell oxycure platin and 30vol with @olaplex sandwiched in foils and processed for 30min 4:Shampoo & apply olaplex #2 5: another compact foiling application with oxycure platin, olaplex & 30vol this time newgrowth to ends. Processed for 30 min. 6: shampooed and realized there was still a good bit of orange in her midshaft, so I applied one more coating of lightener on those parts and wrapped foil around the whole quadrant. Processed for another 20min 7: toned using #Kenra rapid tone 3pts SV 1pt VP for 5 min Olaplex #2 applied again and processed for 10min. 8: rough dry and subsection for #Underlights . I used custom mixes of #pravana and #joico mixed with olaplex #2 to dilute for her underlights, and the remaining hair I applied Goldwell Colorance 10V and olaplex #1 and isolated using @embee.meche 9: cut with long sweeping layers and finished with a killer blowout. #HARDWORK #behindthechair @behindthechair_com #frizzlesoldtown Big thank you to @hair.guy.steve … He inspired me to do so many olaplex treatments. I SWEAR that's what kept her hair so healthy. Thank you Steve for everything you do ๐Ÿ˜˜ #Regrann

Phoning my hairdresser right now, because I must have this look…

Perhaps one of the best things about this trend is that it’s not limited to lighter hair shades.
