Justin Trudeau's response to the question of gender balance is perfect

After being sworn in as Canada's 23rd prime minister, Justin Trudeau took some time to respond to questions from the media.

A journalist commented on his statement that the new cabinet looks a lot like Canada, and then proceeded to ask why it was important for him to have a gender-balanced cabinet.

The prime minister responded simply with, "Because it's 2015."

Trudeau then continued by saying, "Canadians elected extraordinary members of parliament from across the country, and I’m glad to have been able to highlight a few of them in this cabinet here with me today.” He went on to say that diversity is one of Canada’s strengths, and having strong voices with the same diverse views as the communities that they represent would help carry the country forward.

Trudeau's 31-member cabinet includes 15 women, with the full list of the appointments being published by CBC News earlier today.
