Forget downward-facing dog. One Vancouver yoga studio is all about cats, and they may be on to something.
Over the weekend, Stretch yoga studio held a Cats on Your Mats yoga class, which saw eight cats walking around the studio while yoga lovers did their stretches. But it may not have been the most productive session ever, because instructor Julia McCabe told CBC News it was the “most distracting class” she has ever taught.

But to really get into the groove, she even got her class to chant “meow” instead of the traditional “om.”
We all love our feline friends, but if you were wondering why kitties were roaming yoga studios over the weekend, then you’ll be pleased to know it was for a very good cause. The event raised money for the non-profit Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association and was jointly organized by Catfé, which plans to open a cat café in Vancouver before the end of the year.

“It’s just a great way to bring cat lovers together in a unique way. People love cats and spending time with cats,” Catfé founder Michelle Furbacher told CBC News. “Having this calm atmosphere… makes it more comfortable for the cats to come to people as opposed to being chased by people.”
But is it really all that great doing yoga with cats?
One participant, Mya Wollf, told The Province that doing yoga with cats “felt like pure love,” adding, “What they give is no-judgment, non-biased love.”
And if you are having a serious case of FOMO, well, there’s still a chance for you to get out your yoga mat and be distracted by cats, because the next Cats on Your Mats event is planned for Jan. 17, 2016.
