What to expect from the Balmain x H&M collection

When it comes to designer/high street collaborations nobody does it quite like H&M. It’s nearly that time again and this year’s effort is one to get excited about.

The fact that it’s Balmain should be enough for most fashion fans but if you need convincing… it really, really looks like the main Balmain line.

In fact when models Kendall Jenner and Jourdan Dunn rocked up to the American Billboard Awards back in May many fashion editors assumed they were wearing mainline Balmain, so similar their outfits were to items from previous years’ collections.

Kendall’s navy velvet jacket-dress with intricate beaded embroidery is a dead ringer for a piece from the AW12 collection, while Jourdan’s ruched skirt is identical to one seen on the AW13 catwalk and her top could easily be mistaken for part of the AW14 line.

The official H&M announcement, made via Instagram as the models were walking the red carpet with designer Olivier Rousteing, revealed that their outfits were actually hot-off-the-rack pieces from the forthcoming Balmain x H&M line.

Balmain x H&M will be the 11th instalment of the store’s hugely successful designer collabs. Previous collections include Alexander Wang, Versace, Lanvin, Stella McCartney and Karl Lagerfeld.

In an interview with, Rousteing said: “My collaboration is different from the others. H&M really challenged themselves with craftsmanship, with the high couture level of France, and the results are great. Ten years ago, I was the one waiting in front of the window to get the pieces. So I feel like this time I have a double personality: One is the designer who created the collection, and the second is the one who remembers how it felt to wait for the pieces and fight to get them.”

Another sneak peak at the collection came from Elle France, which Instagrammed a black embellished dress with a baroque design, which is very similar to one Kim Kardashian wore to her 2014 hen party.
