Terminally ill woman removes herself from transplant list to fulfil dreams

At just 22 years old, Channan Simone Petrides only has a limited time to live but she's decided to remove herself from the transplant list in order to tick off every item on her bucket list.

Channan suffers from cystic fibrosis, a terminal illness that affects the body's major organs and can cause diabetes, liver and digestive problems and an enlarged heart. It also causes deterioration of the lungs, which leaves sufferers dependent on oxygen with very little mobility.

Channan describes her condition as "slow, painful, suffocating" and reveals that, despite the average life expectancy for cystic fibrosis patients being in the 40s, her lungs are already "showing signs of giving up."

Writing on her GoFundMe page Channan says, "As everyone may know I am terminally ill and have been given a time limit to live. With everyone's help and kind donations I have very nearly completed my Bucket List but there is one thing I would love to do before it's too late. I would love to go to The Brit Awards next year and have the VIP experience of walking on the red carpet. I need everyone's help to make this possible."

After weighing up the pros and cons of a heart and lung transplant Channan made the difficult decision to turn it down and spend her last months doing things she always wanted to do. She has already ticked off many items on her bucket list including a helicopter ride over London, a VIP zoo experience and a hot air balloon ride. Since she posted it on her Facebook page last December the list has gone viral with over 35,000 shares. Another of her goals is to increase awareness of her illness.
