Michelle Heaton spent Mother’s Day with her three-year-old daughter Faith at Chessington World of Adventures and it’s one they won’t forget as they became part of a 500-strong human penguin colony for the day. Huge — but still not big enough to break the existing world record for the number of people in the same place dressed as penguins.
The previous Guinness World Record was 373 people dressed as penguins, which was set by Richard House Hospice at London’s City Hall in November 2014.
Unfortunately only a week before Michelle and her flock donned their penguin costumes, the world record was broken by almost 900 people on Australia’s Phillip Island. According to the World Record Academy, the March 7 gathering at Phillip Island Nature Parks — home of the world-famous penguin parade — smashed the Richard House Hospice Record.
BIzarrely nobody at Chessington World of Adventures seems to be aware of the previous weekend’s record-breaking event Down Under. Let’s hope their PR team still have their penguin masks on to hide their red faces when they realise they were actually a few hundred people short of breaking the record.

World records aside it all looked loads of fun and was to celebrate the launch of the Year of the Penguins at Chessington, the resort’s brand new penguin enclosure and the new ride experience in collaboration with DreamWorks — Penguins of Madagascar Mission: Treetop Hoppers.
Other treats for penguin lovers include an exclusive live show “Penguins of Madagascar Live: Operation Cheezy Dribbles” and two exclusive new Penguins of Madagascar themed bedrooms at the Chessington Safari Hotel.
