Students say rape culture is men’s problem, and for good reason (VIDEO)

This country has a problem with rape. The statistics are staggering. One in 6 women will be the victim of rape or attempted rape in her lifetime. The reports of sexual assault on college campuses are up a staggering 50 percent in the last five years. Colleges are doing remarkably little to curb the problem.

One group of students is determined to have the conversation. Chaz Smith, a Vine personality, joined forces with One Student to talk about the role men play in campus assaults and rape culture.

“Our actions are excused, forgot, forgiven and almost always blamed on women,” Smith says. “Guys: We are not the offense, and women are not the defense.”

“This is real life. These are real lives.”

“This problem is not entirely bleak. There is a solution, and there is hope… Speak up, and teach boys and men these three simple things: Love people. Respect people. And do not assault.”

I think that’s a message everyone can get behind.
