Lady Gaga launches selfie beauty campaign for Shiseido

Lady Gaga is well known for her love of the selfie. And now she’s putting her photography skills to good use: a beauty campaign for Shiseido.

It seems that the potential of the selfie knows no limits. Beauty brand Shiseido’s New Year 2015 campaign consists of 50 selfies taken by pop icon, Lady Gaga, created to show the “real” effects of their products.

According to WWD, 46 of the selfies will be published in different Japanese newspapers on Jan. 1 and the remaining four on Jan. 5.

There are no plans to use the campaign outside of Japan, but hopefully Gaga will share some of the images on her Instagram account. She’s certainly had plenty of practice…

Shiseido is the first global beauty brand to use selfies for an advertising campaign, but fashion brands have been at it for years. Rag & Bone started using selfies for its D.I.Y. Project back in 2011, featuring selfies taken by models wearing their jeans and without the help of a stylist, lighting and professional hair and makeup.

Calvin Klein’s #MyCalvins campaign, launched in February 2014, featured the likes of Kendall Jenner, Miranda Kerr, Trey Songz and Vanessa Hudgens in self-portraits wearing Calvin Klein underwear. The public was also invited to share their own selfies showing off the iconic Calvin Klein waistband.

Clothing label, Equipment, booked model, Daria Werbowy, to shoot a series of self-portraits wearing the label’s shirts. And Free People hired several models, bloggers and artists to post selfies of themselves wearing Free People garments.
