Amal Alamuddin: The latest celebrity style icon

Amal Alamuddin is many things: She’s a lawyer, an activist, an author and a human rights campaigner, but now, she can add fashion icon to the list, too.

What does it take to become the latest IT girl and fashion icon? Take a tip from Amal Alamuddin: It takes sophistication, intelligence, a romantic wedding in Italy to spark everyone’s curiosity and marrying one of the most sought-after celebrity bachelors doesn’t hurt, either.

Since Alamuddin married actor, George Clooney, over the weekend, all eyes have been on the British-Lebanese lawyer and her sleek and sophisticated fashion choices.

Amal Alamuddin is a fashion icon

She wore a striking red gown from Alexander McQueen’s 2011 Resort collection in the lead-up to tying the knot in Venice and, then, was spotted wearing a tailored white pantsuit by Stella McCartney for the civil ceremony, along with a glamorous wide-brimmed hat.

But what fashionistas and hopeless romantics have really been waiting to see is the wedding dress. The photos have been released and they haven’t disappointed.

5 Funny reactions to George Clooney’s relationship status

Both Hello! in the U.K. and People magazine in the U.S. scored the rights to publish the first images of Alamuddin and Clooney’s big day, which, of course, included a photo of the all-important dress on the cover.

“George and I wanted a wedding that was romantic and elegant, and I can’t imagine anyone more able than Oscar (de la Renta) to capture this mood in a dress,” Amal told American Vogue about her choice of designer.

“Meeting him made the design process all the more magical, as he is so warm and such a gentleman.”

What’s the consensus? Is Amal Alamuddin your new style icon?
