The seasons are changing so now you can get away with layering on some lovely pieces.
Put your fear aside and learn how layering clothing and accessories can actually make you look slim. From longer cardigans to silky scarves, layers can give you more creativity and comfort when dressing.
Fashion expert Lauren Conrad offers amazing tips on her blog and only recently shared the benefits of adding to the clothes you are wearing.
“Many women are afraid to layer their clothes for fear of looking bigger than they actually are. While logic would lead one to believe that this claim is true, if you’ve mastered the art of layering this couldn’t be further from the truth,” Conrad said.
“A perfectly layered look will compliment your curves and create the illusion of a more proportional silhouette.”

And, she is absolutely right. Perfectly balanced layers will give your body greater definition in the right places, while hiding bits you don’t like.
Here are some great pieces that will take your look to the next level (and keep you warm on the cooler nights):
This fitted dress from French Connection is perfect as it will give you some shape and being in black and white means you have endless colour opportunities for the other layers.
Also consider pencil skirts, fitted jeans and snug tops (remember any unwanted lumps will be covered with the next few layers).
The next layer
From here you want to consider adding a thin layer such as a caridigan — long, short or cropped, it doesn’t matter as long as it’s not too bulky. This is also your opportunity to add some colour or patterns to your outfit. Australia’s queen of cardigans, Alannah Hill, always has beautiful pieces that have lots of embellishments and colour.
If you want to accentuate or create a curvy waist, you can also add a belt at this point. A thin belt with small details, like this one from ModCloth, is perfect as it will pull you in without looking too bulky.
If you really want to step it up for a night out though, consider a funky vest made of faux fur, feathers or sequin touches.

This is where you can get as creative as you want. Add the finishing layer in the shape of a scarf, neck tie or heavily embellished jewellery.
Pick a scarf that you can wrap, twist or drape in different ways, so you can play with your look and get it sitting right. Also, look for something that has a different fabric or cute pattern, like this leopard print number from Witchery.
If it’s getting quite cold then you will obviously need to consider a jacket, but don’t let it be something that hides all of your great fashion underneath. Find a jacket that is tailored but comfortable. This jacket from Metalicus is great because it will still show off your other pieces through the neckline, but has a great belt that will pull in your overall silhouette.
