Fact: Every student needs a rocking pencil case to store all their school supplies. But just because it's an essential item, that doesn't mean it has to be ordinary.

Bite me

hot pink snake skin passport holder

For a pencil case that stands out from the rest, you can’t go past this one from the very creative minnebites. Shaped like a shark, the case is made with 100 per cent cotton, a chunky polyester zipper and child-safe "googly eyes". The case is approximately 10 inches long and 5 inches wide, so there is tons of room for all those supplies your child needs to get them through the school day. If it gets dirty, all it needs is a gentle hand wash — too easy! This beauty has a light blue body and a pink tail and fins. If you want a shark pencil case for your little man, don’t worry — there are plenty of other colour combinations in minnebites’ shop.

Leather to last

personalized monogrammed passport holder

This leather roll-up pencil case is not only gorgeous and classy, but it’s also one of the most durable ones on the Etsy market. Handmade by erikasleather, the case is lined with genuine leather and tied up with the help of leather cords. It holds 20 pencils, pens or crayons, and it also has a zippered pocket inside to store things like rubbers and sharpeners. Since personalisation is king, the designer makes these cases to order so she has the chance to paint your kid’s name or initials on the top. While pink and red are the main colours used, if you want different colours, ask and you shall receive!

Infinity and beyond

different signs of different places around the world

Do you have a boy who’s a sucker for action figures? Does he need a little push to get out the door in the mornings? Well, this Toy Story-inspired pencil case is sure to give him the motivation to go to school (to show it off, of course!) Handmade by the team at SimplyCasualKids, this fabric-covered box is big enough to stash lots of pencils and crayons as well as bulkier items like scissors and glue sticks. All in all, it’s the place to store just about everything. And best of all, there’s a very slim chance anyone else will have an art box like it! (There are also plenty of girly designs in the shop, so your daughter won’t feel left out.)

Pretty in pink

A purple passport holder with butterflies and flowers

It’s adorable, functional and, most importantly, it’s pink — in other words, this pencil case is the perfect accessory for just about every schoolgirl. Featuring a range of pink elephants on a white background, the pencil case has a flat bottom (so it stands up on its own) and closes with a zipper (so you don’t have to worry about things falling out). It’s 20 x 8 x 5 centimetres and the designer, piggledee did a test and found it fits 30 pens or pencils as well as a pair of scissors with room to spare. Not bad! The best thing? Piggledee’s stuff is made in Australia, which means next to no shipping costs!
