A new restaurant in Toronto is making a buzz, and it’s not because of the food it is serving. It’s because of who is serving it.
A new restaurant in Toronto, aptly named Signs, is hiring deaf servers and requesting that instead of guests asking for what they’d like to eat, they sign their selection instead. Owner Anjan Manikumar is aiming to give diners an experience unlike any other — he hopes guests learn something about what it is like to live life as a deaf person. He also hopes to give the many unemployed hearing-impaired people in the community an opportunity that won’t just help them but that will continue to help the community as a whole.
