10 Dads who make us proud to be Canadian

To celebrate Father’s Day and all the amazing men out there, we’d like to tip our hats to these incredible Canadian dads, who make us proud to live in this mysterious Northern land.

These guys are just setting the bar for everyone. We’re not saying you have to be a legendary actor or an environmental magician or even a humanitarian to be a good dad, but these Canadian fathers never cease to amaze and inspire us with their professional and at-home lives. Way to go, fellas!

1. David Suzuki

David Suzuki

Who doesn’t love David Suzuki (other than oil magnates)? He is a Canadian environmental activist, an intellectual, a former professor and a broadcaster. Oh, and he is a father of five! Keeping busy, eh? Suzuki’s daughters, Severn and Sarika, are even following in their father’s footsteps and pursuing environmental activism. Canada is in good hands so long as the Suzukis are around to keep an eye on it.

2. Joe Mimran

Joe Mimran

Most famous for launching Club Monaco and Joe Fresh, Joe Mimran is making Canada more stylish every single day. But while he is not ruling a fashion empire, Mimran is a father of four kids (who have frequented his many shows). We expect many great and incredibly fashionable things from the Mimran clan.

3. Marc Kielburger

Marc Kielburger

Marc and his brother Craig Kielburger are Canadian treasures. The duo launched an amazing youth-empowering organization called Free the Children and Me to We. Marc has since gone on to marry Roxanne Joyal and has a little baby girl whom the couple even takes on their regular trips to Kenya. Who knows? Maybe the little one is a humanitarian in the making.

4. Ben Mulroney

Ben Mulroney

We knew Ben Mulroney was destined for greatness. He is, after all, the son of the former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Ben now has his own family, including three kids, and keeps us up to speed on all entertainment news as the host of etalk. We love this guy!

5. Donald Sutherland

Donald Sutherland

First of all, Donald Sutherland is adorable. We feel as if his being a New Brunswicker has something to do with it. The legendary actor has five kids, three of which pursued careers in show business like their father. His son Kiefer Sutherland even went on to pick up a Golden Globe for his role on 24. Not too shabby!

6. Michael Smith

Michael Smith: Family meals

While Michael Smith is American born, he has been living in Canada for several decades and is considered to be one of the most influential chefs in the country. He deliberately made the move from professional chef to at-home cook to spend more time with his family while contributing to Food Network. His Chef at Home show never fails to inspire us to cook healthy, local food.

7. Canadian Dad

Canadian Dad, or Chris, is just your average Canuck father of two who happens to have a blog. We love Chris for allowing strangers into his life through his website and inspiring all of us to be better parents. He’s just such an accessible parental role model. Plus he’s funny.

8. Russell Peters

Russell Peters

The comedian has always been funny, but now he can incorporate his daughter, Chrystianna, into his routine as well. Peters welcomed his first child in 2010 with his wife, Monica Diaz. We love Peters for being a proud Canadian and never allowing the world to forget where he came from. We hope his daughter is as funny as he is.

9. Michael J. Fox

Michael J. Fox

We’ve all had a soft spot for Michael J. Fox ever since Family Ties hit the small screen. The actor is an amazing father and an inspirational advocate for Parkinson’s disease research. Fox himself was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1991 and has since launched his very own Michael J. Fox Foundation to advance development for a cure.

10. Colin Mochrie

Colin Mochrie

Sure, Colin Mochrie was born in Scotland, but he was fully raised in Canada. The comedian made his mark on Whose Line Is It Anyway? (which is back on TV!) and brought on the laughs through smaller projects. Mochrie has a son, Luke, who has also dabbled with various television projects.
