5 Beauty resolutions to keep you gorgeous all year

Want to maintain healthy, glowing skin all winter? Of course you do, which is why we’re sharing some important beauty resolutions that will help ensure your skin is as smooth, supple and gorgeous as can be.

Know your skin type

Knowing your skin type is the first step toward healthy skin. Whether your skin is oily, combination, dry or sensitive will determine the type of skin care products to buy and the skin care routine to adopt. If you’re not sure what type of skin you have, talk to an aesthetician or dermatologist, but here are a few general indicators of skin type:

  • If your skin feels tight right after washing, it’s likely dry.
  • If your skin gets shiny throughout the day and you get occasional breakouts, you likely have oily skin.
  • If your cheeks feel tight, but you get shine on your T-zone, you have combination skin.
  • If you skin reddens easily and gets irritated often, you have sensitive skin.

Stay hydrated

Letting yourself get dehydrated is not only bad for your body but can also adversely affect your complexion. Dehydrated skin looks tight, pale and thin, but staying hydrated can help keep your skin looking supple and fresh. Resolve to sip water regularly, and tote a bottle of water in your purse. Add in a squeeze of citrus to keep things interesting, and never let yourself get to the point where you feel thirsty — that means you’re already dehydrated.

Always wash off makeup

No matter how many glasses of wine you had or how tired you feel, it’s important to always wash your face before you fall into bed. Leaving your makeup on can clog pores, cause breakouts and irritate your skin. It can be helpful to keep a package of facial cleansing wipes by your bed for nights you just can’t be bothered to hit the sink.

Protect skin from the sun

You’ve heard it here before, but it bears repeating that to keep skin healthy, sun protection is a must — even in the winter and on cloudy days. Choose a product that isn’t greasy and won’t clog pores, so it can be easily worn under makeup. We like Coola Suncare, which offers several organic face-specific sunscreens in a matte or tinted finish.

By skipping this important skin care step, you risk having a dull, lacklustre complexion. Dead skin cells and other pore-clogging debris can build up and cause a less-than-glowing complexion, but regular exfoliation (once or twice per week) can alleviate the problem by revealing newer, smoother skin beneath and ensuring skin looks — and stays — healthy.
