Long weekend ideas

Start planning a long weekend to enjoy a nice break from your daily routine. You don’t have to wait for a weeklong holiday or a trip to the Caribbean to have fun. Try one of these four long weekend getaway ideas and go back to work as refreshed as you can ever be.

Road trip

With the cold weather upon us, rugging up and taking a road trip can be a fun thing to do! It doesn’t have to be a 14-hour continuous drive. You can simply go to a different region and check out the scenery. Take lots of photos, and try some different restaurants or wineries. You can take a road trip with your friends, your kids, your boyfriend — anyone, really! Just remember to stock up on some good music and munchies for the road.

Sleepover

Spend the weekend at a friend’s house! Do you have a friend who lives far away that don’t get to see very often? Go spend the weekend with them! Whether you are single or have a family, it’s OK to spend a weekend away. You will be able to catch up with your friend, and you will feel like you took a mini-holiday.

Yoga and spa retreat

Treat yourself to a yoga and spa retreat over a long weekend. Many places offer a camplike atmosphere along with their yoga and spa facilities. Pick a retreat that’s within your budget, and take a few of your girlfriends with you. It can be a refreshing and relaxing experience, both physically and mentally. If a paid retreat is outside your budget, create your own! Spend a day at a spa near you, and book a few yoga classes over the weekend to enjoy some “you” time with your girlfriends.

Cottages

Gather your family or friends — or both — and rent a cottage for a long weekend. You can lounge in the sun, barbeque, swim, play board games and charades and do all the things you never have enough time to do. Time away from the city is always a nice change and a perfect choice for long weekends.
