5 Slimming spring styles

Spring 2012 is bringing with it some spectacular fashion trends. Embrace the season’s hottest styles and get a super slim look with these great pieces.

Spring fashion: Woman in a print dress

Prints of every colour and pattern will be gracing all items of clothing this season. Polka dots, stripes, florals, tribals and more will be seen on everything from blouses to shorts. Large prints emphasize a larger space and can make you look bigger; small, intricate prints grant an instantly slimmer look.

Looking taller always has a guaranteed slimming effect and platforms make it easier for you to get that additional length. They raise the whole of your foot instead of just the heel, so you can get some added height that your arch wouldn’t be capable of otherwise. Platforms are showing up in all shapes, designs and colours this summer, so you can find pairs that go perfectly with any outfit. Or, if platforms aren’t your thing, consider giving wedges a try. They are equally popular this spring and have similar lengthening effects.

Bright blazer

Blazers have been in for quite some time now, but spring brings with it a huge emphasis on all things bright. Blazers will be popping up everywhere, in bold blues, neon pinks and pastel greens. And fortunately, these stylish statement pieces have the unique ability of smoothing out the upper body. For a great slimming look, pick a style that goes in slightly at the waist and falls just below the hip.

Natural waists

The waist is naturally built to be the narrowest part of the body so it makes sense that we should aim to emphasize it. Any dress or blouse can easily be converted simply by wrapping a belt around the waist. Or, you can go for a skirt that sits comfortably around your middle and features an attractive, wide elastic.

Colour blocking

Bold colours are definitely in this spring which, when used correctly, can be the perfect way to achieve a slimmer look. For instance, wear a charcoal or black cardigan open over a bright blouse to create the appearance of a long, narrow torso. Or, accent your best features with bold colours, so they stand out. For instance, if you have a pear shape, opt for a darker shade of skirt, with a bright stripe around the waist and a medium hue on top. This will draw the eye up and provide you with a slimmer shape.
