The holiday season is just around the corner. This year, add a personal touch to all your gifts by taking a little extra time to wrap them with love and care. Here are three creative ways to wrap common, hard-to-wrap gifts that will make the recipient feel extra special.

Gift cards and money

Gift cards and money often make great gifts, especially for those who are hard to shop for. But more often than not, they come in an envelope, which totally takes away from the surprise of unwrapping a present. This year make things a little more exciting by taking a few extra minutes to wrap them in an extra-special way.

Supplies:

  • Paper towel rolls or toilet paper rolls
  • Tissue paper
  • Ribbon

Directions:

Step 1

Slide the gift card into your paper roll. If you're using a paper towel roll, you can cut it into halves or even thirds.

Step 2

Lay your roll with the gift card inside on a piece of tissue. Leave about 4 to 5 inches on both sides and enough tissue paper to be able to wrap around the roll about twice.

Step 3

Wrap the tissue paper around your roll and hold in place.

Step 4

Give the open ends a twist like a candy wrapper.

Step 5

Tie up the ends with a pretty bow, using the ribbon.

Wrapping a bottle of wine

Bottles of wine are an easy gift to bring to any celebration. This season make a bottle of wine into a great two-in-one gift by wrapping it in a dish towel. It's a reusable gift that will come in handy for your hostess.

Supplies:

  • Dish towel
  • Ribbon

Directions:

Step 1

Lay your dish towel out flat, then stand the bottle of wine in the center of the towel.
Step 2

Bring the ends of your dish towel together at the top of the wine bottle.
Step 3
At the neck of the wine bottle, take your ribbon and tie it into a bow around the dish towel.
Step 4
Gift your newly-dressed bottle of wine to your hostess at the next dinner party.

Making your own custom wrapping paper

Making your own wrapping paper adds a personal touch to your gift. You can use plain wrapping paper or even upcycle old paper bags and personalize them with permanent markers.

Supplies:

  • Plain wrapping paper
  • Sharpie markers

Directions:

Step 1

Unfold your wrapping paper and lay on a flat surface. With your markers make a simple pattern — it can be dots or lines, or even doodles, whatever design you create.
Step 2
Once you have finished creating your pattern, measure off the right amount of paper to wrap your gift.
Step 3
Wrap your gift with your newly-designed wrapping paper. You can add some ribbon and a bow to finish it off.
