Teen faces jail time for humping Jesus statue

I hope the dopey gag was worth it

After posting a picture of himself acting like he’s sexing up a Jesus statue, a Pennsylvania teenager is facing two years in juvenile hall. The 14-year-old, whose name isn’t being released because of his age, posted the picture in late July, according to the complaint obtained by The Smoking Gun.

The statue called “Love in the name of Jesus Christ” is located in the teen’s hometown of Everett, Pennsylvania, where this type of lewd act is forbidden by state law, which reads, “Defacing, damaging, polluting or otherwise, physically mistreating in a way that the actor knows will outrage the sensibilities of persons likely to observe or discover the action.”

The teen is charged with “Desecration of a Venerated Object” and will stand before a family court. Although the crime is a misdemeanor, if convicted, the kid could be put in juvenile hall for up to two years.

Social media is agog that a silly prank could land a teenager in jail.

Some are calling out officials on the irony that defiling a statue would draw more of a punishment in Pennsylvania than Ray Rice got in New Jersey for knocking out his wife.

What do you think? Should this kid be in such hot water over his antics?
