The 5 nail polish colors you need this summer

Make sure your nail polish wardrobe is up-to-date with these “must have” shades for summer.

t This season, cremes are in, glitter is out and I’m all about bold, bright color for nails. From cobalt to raspberry, these five nail polish shades are essential to your summer nail wardrobe.

1. White

t When it’s sweltering hot and humid, nothing feels as fresh as a crisp, white shirt. A clean, white nail has the same effect and it looks fantastic on toes. Forget those chalky, Wite-Out whites of the past; these are creamy, glossy goodness.

tSplurge: LVX Fantom (, $16)

tSave: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear White On (Drugstores, $3)

2. Raspberry

t Not your typical hot pink, bright raspberry is all the rage. This fruity hue is fun and youthful but still grounded by its cool undertone. Whether you opt for classic creme or a sparkling shimmer, it’s sure to draw attention.

tSplurge: Morgan Taylor Tropical Punch (, $9)

tSave: Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure (Drugstores, $6)

3. Yellow

t I know, yellow can be a daunting color to wear, but with options ranging from butter to lemon, there is a shade out there for every skin tone. The challenge with yellows is finding one with a streak-free formula, and these two polishes are guaranteed to deliver.

tSplurge: OPI I Just Can’t Cope-acabana (, $9)

tSave: Maybelline Color Show Bleached Neons Citrus Collide (Drugstores, $4)

4. Cobalt

t No offense to Pantone but this is the real Color of the Year for 2014. Cobalt blues have been dominating on the runways and in the beauty aisles. Every major nail polish brand has come out with a version of this shade so if you can’t locate these two, specifically, there are plenty of options available.

tSplurge: JINSoon Cool Blue (, $16)

tSave: Milani Blue Zoom (Drugstores, $5)

5. Teal

t Even if you can’t get to a beach this summer, you can have that oceanic feel with a bright sea-green manicure or pedicure. Both of these polishes perfectly “toe the line” between blue and green, and are easy to apply.

tSplurge: Deborah Lippmann She Drives Me Crazy (, $18)

tSave: Sally Hansen Triple Shine Seasational (Drugstores, $5)
