We know that everyone and their mother thinks Cate Blanchett has the best style ever and can do no wrong on the red carpet, but we’re calling her caped creation that she chose for the U.K. premiere of Blue Jasmine a style misstep.
The Givenchy gown features a halter neck that turns into a cropped cape in the front and a long sequined version in the back. This mullet dress is a hot mess! Capes can be chic when done properly (hello Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford at the Oscars last year), but we don’t think anyone should attempt a double sided cape, not even a style icon. Leave the cape in the back where it belongs.
The final verdict? We’re also so not into the black and brown color combo on this dress, which leaves us feeling blah, and the embellished embroidery looks like the pattern for an Oriental rug. Sorry, Cate, but this look isn’t great.
What happened to Heidi Klum here? Did the Project Runway hostess and supermodel mom of four let her kids make this dress for her? Heidi hit the Season 8 party for America’s Got Talent in NYC wearing an outfit that looks very DIY and not in a good way.
Let’s start with her strange skirt. Is it decorated with pills? Embellished with bacteria? Studded with stickers? We have no clue what’s happening there but we do know we don’t like it one bit. It’s also an odd hemline length. Heidi then paired her perplexing skirt with a patterned top that looks like something we thought was cool to wear to a middle school dance, instead of a red carpet event in the Big Apple.
The final verdict? Please tell this outfit auf wiedersehen ASAP. Save the handmade hack job dresses for contestants you boot off Project Runway, not your own personal wardrobe, please! Her slicked-back ponytail is cute, though.
