Oops… even celebrities get it wrong sometimes! We’re telling you why Sarah Hyland and Erin Wasson’s MTV VMA fashions fell short in our weekly feature. Learn from the stars’ sartorial slip ups!
Here’s Modern Family starlet Sarah Hyland channeling her best Superwoman-goes-flamenco dancing look at the MTV Video Music Awards in Brooklyn. We usually drool over everything Marchesa makes, but this crimson multi-tiered gown isn’t on our wish list.
Like we said, the top part reminds us of Superwoman, which isn’t always a bad thing but the bottom is so bad. The peplum waist and ruffled hemline are swallowing Sarah’s petite frame and adding unnecessary bulk to her silhouette. The only person who could possibly pull this draped mess off is someone super tall, like Stacy Keibler and even that might be a stretch.
The final verdict? This dress is all wrong for the funky, laid-back VMAs and not the right fit for 22-year-old Sarah no matter what the occasion is. We would have paired gold or nude shoes with it too, instead of black strappy sandals.
Look everyone, it’s Erin Wasson at the VMAs in a scandalous dress! What’s that? You’ve never heard of her? Oh right, neither had we, until the model hit the carpet nearly naked on Sunday in this Alexandre Vauthier couture creation. We like to call this pulling a Miley: aka trying way too hard to turn heads.
Sure, the VMAs are the right place to wear a daring dress, but as a model, we’re not even sure why you’re there in the first place. This see-through, nearly naked gown is too much and seems like a desperate cry for attention. When Gaga is dressed more demurely on the carpet than you, you may want to rein it in a bit.
The final verdict? Skanky dress aside, we’re also not feeling the turban and bun on top/braid on the side combo. Erin should take notes from Ciara or Rita Ora, who both showed some serious skin at the event, but managed to look semi-classy at the same time.
