Even though we’re already into 2012, we’re feeling a bit nostalgic about the year in fashion from 2011. So let’s take a look back at some of the hottest fashion trends of the year. From ’70s-inspired looks to Western accessories, check out the best fashion trends of 2011.
Menswear-inspired jackets, trousers and oxfords were very trendy in 2011. Partnering menswear pieces with surprisingly feminine accessories softens this look, making it much more wearable for most women.
Navajo-inspired prints, gently worn leather satchels and Western accessories dominated the runways and the city streets in 2011. We also love the wide-brimmed fedoras that are part of this look.
Real fur is still evil (according to most people), but faux fur was definitely “in.” When fall arrived, so did faux fur vests. These essential pieces were spotted everywhere from college campuses to business lunches to Hollywood premieres.
The suit isn’t just for the office anymore. In 2011, we saw suits just about everywhere — from daytime dates to cocktail parties. Bold suits in vibrant citrus colors were all the rage, but white and cream were also popular picks.
For all of us who were sick of skinny jeans, we welcomed the wide-leg pant in 2011. From retro ’70s jeans to wide menswear-inspired trousers, loose-legged pants were one of the top trends of the year. Wide-leg pants look fabulous when partnered with a fitted sweater or tee.
Floral prints are popular every year, but in 2011, we saw more floral detailing — from brilliant appliques to textured floral gowns. And flowers weren’t just for spring; we saw them blooming well into fall.
The combination of leather and lace was back in a big way this year. We love the combination of a romantic, lacy blouse with a fitted leather jacket or body-hugging leather pencil skirt.
