Winter prep your skin with cream foundations

Winter is coming, the leaves are down and the air is cool. It’s time to switch up your makeup routine a little. Cream foundations have come to your skin’s rescue.

Most of us need a little more hydration this time of year; even those with oily skin might find themselves feeling a little drier than usual. One way to transition is with cream foundations. They glide on skin and make applying your foundation a snap, adding moisture and holding up to old man winter.

Mehron Célèbre Pro HD ($11) – A professional brand and staple in makeup artists’ kits, this well-priced pot comes in literally dozens of shades and is HD ready and oil-free. That means you get major coverage without it being heavy or greasy as well as a perfected skin look. Aloe vera provides moisture and pomegranate extract and vitamin E are good for skin antioxidants. You’ll be ready for your close up in no time. Mehron Célèbre Pro HD ($10)

Urban Decay Surreal Skin Cream to Powder ($34) – In its bright purple compact, Surreal Skin is lightweight on skin and feels barely there but dries to a powder finish with great coverage that never looks cakey. Apply with the included brush or your own sponge puff for light to medium coverage.

Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick ($78) – The most luxurious of the cream foundations is the new stick version from the always chic Mr. Ford, who says he uses this product himself. Stick foundations were once everywhere, but now they’re not so easy to find. They not only make great foundations but excellent concealers and are handy for quick touch-ups. Tom Ford’s gives skin a dewy finish with light to medium blendable coverage and maximum hydration that lasts throughout the day. Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick

Dior Diorskin Nude Crème Gel Compact ($48) – This is one of the best choices for those with slightly oily skin. This is a very light cream/gel as the name says and imparts a light to medium finish. It manages to provide good coverage while still being a more sheer formula thanks to mineral powders. There are no oils or heavy hydrators in there and it goes on easily with the enclosed, double sided puff. Dior Diorkskin Nude Crème Gel Compact

Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Crème Compact Makeup SPF 15 ($35) – Not only is this foundation loaded with moisturizers, it also lifts, firms, brightens and evens skintone thanks to the same ingredients as Lauder’s Resilience Lift skin care line.
