What do you call a watermelon you can mail? A watermailon! Easy to make and even more fun to send, this hollow foam watermelon can be painted and filled with surprises. Postage for this postal produce will depend on weight, but these mailed for $2.75.
Supplies:
- 8-inch Smoothfoam half-ball (at most hobby and craft stores)
- Watermelon photo (download and print PDF here)
- Cardboard
- Spray glue
- Dark green acrylic paint
- Light green acrylic paint
- Clear satin acrylic paint
- Paint brush
- X-Acto knife or scissors
Directions:
Print out the watermelon photo. Spray-glue it to cardboard and cut out.
Paint the outside of an 8-inch Smoothfoam half-ball with dark green acrylic paint.
While the dark-green paint is still wet, add zigzag lines of light green acrylic paint to simulate the look of a watermelon. Allow paints to blend into each other and dry.
Turn the half-ball over and paint the inner rim with dark green acrylic paint. Allow to dry.
Cover the painted areas with clear satin acrylic paint. Allow to dry.
Fill with fun surprises and hot-glue the cardboard watermelon photo to the inner rim of the foam ball.
Address and ship your watermailon.
