Kate Middleton is in labor right now, but we’re already thinking about what she’ll wear when she introduces the littlest royal to the world.
It might seem trivial, but it’s likely that Kate Middleton has put a lot of thought into the outfit she will wear when she makes her official exit from St. Mary’s Hospital with Prince William and their new addition. After all, it’ll be captured in a million photographs.
Need proof? One of the most iconic images of the late Princess Diana is the image of her leaving the very same hospital in June 1982 with newborn Prince William in tow. The loose-fitting, polka-dotted dress she wore inspired moms around the world and helped launch Princess Di as a global fashion icon.
The fashion-loving Duchess of Cambridge is known for always picking sartorial winners — and her former stylist thinks her exit from the hospital’s Lindo Wing will continue that trend.
“Something comfortable, low-key, conservative, and appropriate,” Nikki Pennie told E! News earlier this month of what she envisions Middleton will wear when she introduces her new son or daughter. “I’m pretty sure it will be a dress and maybe a jacket… She loves wrap dresses, empire waists, and V-necks [sic] dresses.”
Don’t expect anything too crazy.
The winning outfit will likely be “a figure-hugging number that’s still very streamline [sic] and elegant,” Pennie said. “She will probably pick a very classic neutral or a pretty summer color like emerald. It’s definitely going to be a British designer. It could be Topshop, Issa or Alexander McQueen.”
The one thing her outfit won’t be?
“Definitely not a muumuu!”
We can’t wait to see!
