We know that growing vegetables and becoming sustainable can save you lots of money in the long run. But can you imagine the surprise of finding cold hard cash in your garden among the other greens?!

That’s what happened to an unemployed carpenter in Illinois when he went out to his backyard garden to pick some fresh broccoli for dinner. Among the vegetables, Wayne Sabaj found a bag full of $20 bills, totalling $150,000!

Sabaj lives with his father, and the money wasn’t stashed in the garden by either one of them. Despite reportedly spending his last $10 on cigarettes, Sabaj did the right thing and called the police to report the mysterious monies. Authorities are currently unsure where the money came from and if their investigation goes unsolved, Sabaj may be able to keep the cash. What a bumper crop! It definitely makes me want to look a little closer when I’m weeding and planting!
