Pantone’s Color of the Year Will Add a Cheery Boost to Any Room

In the dark, gray days of winter, it can be hard to remember that a sunnier time lies ahead, but this year, Pantone is keeping the promise of warmer, happier times alive with their 2019 color of the year: Living Coral.

The brand calls this, their 20th annual color of the year, “An animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”

Lest you think Living Coral is simply a color designers feel will be popular in the coming year, think again. A lot more thought than that went into deciding upon this hue.

Pantone says, “Living Coral welcomes and encourages lighthearted activity,” symbolizes “our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits” and “embodies our desire for playful expression.”

There’s a bit about social media in their announcement too. “With consumers craving human interaction and social connection, the humanizing and heartening qualities displayed by the convivial PANTONE Living Coral hit a responsive chord,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
