12 Amazing ways to recycle wooden pallets

Who knew wooden pallets could be so versatile? There are so many ways you can recycle an unassuming wooden pallet into something pretty darn amazing.
Wooden pallets can be picked up for free (yes, for free!) at many hardware stores, garden or landscaping nurseries, automobile shops and even on Craigslist. Some of these pallets can be dirty or contain toxic pesticides, so ask and make sure they are clean, especially if you plan on using these pallets inside of your home. The best wooden pallets contain a stamp that says "HS HT" which means they have been heat treated and not treated with toxic chemicals.
Wooden pallet book shelf
If you are like me, you never have enough space for books — especially kids' books. This is such a clever way to transform a wooden pallet into a usable book shelf. Standing herb garden
This herb garden is what got me interested in the whole "wooden pallet project" craze. This free-standing herb garden is not only gorgeous and functional, but it has wheels so you can move it around. How cute would this look on your patio? DIYShowOff.com planted a variety of herbs, including basil, parsley, dill, rosemary and oregano — the sky is the limit as far as which herbs you decide to plant. You can also plant pretty flowers for a colorful touch.

Wooden signs are one of my favorite ways to dress up a wall, but they are surprisingly expensive — which is why these wood pallet signs are at the top of my list of projects. Not only do they look cool, but you can personalize them to say exactly what you want.
Your kids will flip over this idea in which you switch out their bed frames for wooden pallets. This would also be a great way to transition your toddler from a crib to a regular bed because the pallets are lower to the ground than a traditional bed frame.
