A handmade craft for Mother’s Day: DIY chalkboard coasters
Although flowers are nice and jewelry is always appreciated, why not surprise your mom with a truly personalized gift this Mother's Day? These clay coasters are perfect for the mom who loves to host.
Not only are these coasters cute, they are super-easy to make. Simply form coasters from clay, bake and then paint with chalkboard paint! These will be the hit at any party and will be great to use at your Mother's Day brunch.
DIY chalkboard coaster
- 1 container oven bake clay (we used white)
- Chalkboard paint
- Paint brush
- Super glue
Mold the clay into small circles
Using your coaster template, mold the clay to fit around it.
Carefully smooth out the lumps and trace around the coaster to make clean, fresh lines.
Preheat the oven to 275 degrees F and bake for about 30 minutes, or until hard. Let cool.
Paint with chalkboard paint
Once cooled, spray the coaster with chalkboard paint outside (or over newspaper).
Let dry for at least two hours. Then paint the other side and let dry for 24 hours before using.
(Note: We painted the back side first, as shown, and then painted the top.)
Once dried, write messages with chalk and enjoy!
