Taste of the South Thanksgiving side dishes

Cheddar smashed potato recipe

Servings: 4-6

Total time: 1 hour


  • 5 lbs. red potatoes, washed and quartered
  • 1/2 stick butter, softened
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 bunch green onions, sliced thin
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Place potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, bring to a simmer and cook until fork tender. Drain potatoes well and return to pot off of heat. Using a hand-held masher, add butter and mix until melted. Mash in remaining ingredients and season with salt and pepper.
