Nothing says St. Patrick's Day quite like a couple of Kelly-green shamrocks. Give your home a little luck of the Irish with this DIY St. Patrick's Day banner.

  • Burlap
  • Green twine with wire
  • Green craft paint
  • Card stock
  • Shamrock stencil or shape
  • Felt
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Create your template

St. Patrick's Day banner step 1: make template

Trace the shape of the shamrock on card stock and cut out. Be sure that you leave the shamrock shape as you will need it for a stencil later. I bought my shamrock felt pieces at Jo-Ann's for $2.99. If you cannot find something similar, use a free shamrock printable to cut out your own using a piece of thick felt.

Stencil your shamrock

St. Patrick's Day banner step 2: place template on burlap

Place shamrock stencil onto the burlap to size out squares. The squares shown are 5 x 5 inches.

Use a thick paintbrush to dab paint in shape of the shamrock onto the burlap. Continue to do so until you have good coverage. Since you are likely to hang your banner, the more paint applied, the easier it will be to see your shamrock on the burlap. Ensure that you use something behind the burlap to avoid getting paint onto the surface.

Glue your foam pieces

St. Patrick's Day banner step 5: hot glue onto felt to adhere to the burlap

Liberally apply hot glue onto felt to adhere to the burlap. Press down firmly. Once both the painted burlap and glued shamrock are dry, adhere to the twine.

St. Patrick's Day banner step 7:cut twine and hang

Cut twine and hang.
