In need of a cute costume but find yourself running low on cash? Lucky for you, creating this look is easy and only requires a few items.

Tarot card reader

Despite planning and price-matching every year, we find ourselves buying high-priced costumes for Halloween. Finding decent attire for a reasonable amount of money can seem nearly impossible, but this is a new year. Enough with the sexy police officer and Wonder Woman outfits. Mix up your costume selection this season and be a tarot card reader.

  • Skirt ($6)
  • Corset ($13)
  • Scarf ($6)
  • Fake gold jewelry ($3)
  • Cards ($1)

Begin with a solid base

Start by putting on a black or brown skirt with a bit of body. Long, cascading skirts are perfect for a traditional tarot card reader, but for a modern approach simply wear a short black skirt. The skirt in this photo was purchased at Wal-Mart.

Compliment the black garment with a pirate corset, which can be bought at Party City. Have some fun with the placement of the straps. Keep it classy with straps on the shoulders or wear them off the shoulder for a slightly sexier look.

Accentuate with accessories

No tarot reader costume is complete without the addition of a bold-colored belt, gold jewelry and a deck of cards. Such items can be purchased at Wal-Mart. For dramatic effect, you can also wear a silk headscarf — use as many or as few as you would like. Make it simple, make it unique, but most importantly, make it fun!
