New love is exciting and one of the best feelings we can think of, but it can also be tricky to navigate. Mistakes can be made and we want to help ensure you avoid them. Just say no to these three common new relationship don’ts.
Oversharing on social media
We know you’re happy and you want everyone to know how happy you are, but before you start posting every iPhone photo of him, his dog and all of your moments together, think about whether he’s OK with that. Some guys get weird about having their every move documented online. A few photos are fine, but try to avoid plastering his wall and yours with every detail of your relationship.
Getting too attached too soon
It’s so easy to start thinking about taking the relationship to the next level when you’ve fallen hard. But before you suggest a summer vacation together or moving in together in the fall, slow down to make sure he feels the same way. Getting too attached could backfire if he would rather take things slow. You don’t want to push him away by being over-enthusiastic.
Ditching everyone for him
Even though you want to spend every waking moment with your new man, don’t forget you have other people in your life who want to spend time with you. Your friends will understand that you’re not as available now that you’ve found a guy you really like, but they won’t appreciate being ditched indefinitely. Make sure you build in time for your BFFs amid all the time you’re spending with your new guy.
Expecting him to drop everything for you
He has friends and other interests and you can’t expect someone new to be at your beck and call. Just because he wants to hit the gym solo or spend a Friday night with his friends doesn’t mean he doesn’t love you. Give him some space to do his own thing or he could start to feel smothered. The key in a new relationship is to find a balance between time together and doing things apart.
