Nora Sheils of Bridal Bliss Event Planning spoke with WeddingWire about the ways in which color palettes will be transitioning in unexpected ways in 2018. It sounds like navy will make a major statement, while silver, chrome and even black will act as accent colors. “Instead of a classic black and white engraved invitation, couple’s [sic] are opting for a deep midnight blue letterpressed invitation, and we’re seeing a lot of navy blue bridesmaid dresses too,” Shiels revealed.

4. Colorful candles

Centerpieces can get an easy shake-up with some colorful candles. As event planner Mindy Weiss tells Martha Stewart Weddings, “Instead of the standard white and ivory candles, couples are looking to add a splash of color. Colored candles on tablescapes or peppered throughout the event space are an easy way to add something unexpected to your décor.”

5. Fun place cards

Jacin Fitzgerald spoke to Martha Stewart Weddings about the ways in which place cards provide the perfect opportunity to get bold and fun. “While paper will always have a place in weddings and events, there is an ongoing trend to think outside the box. The new year will weave creative place cards into the event’s aesthetic. They’ll be edible or made with unexpected mediums, such as plants or vases.

A small pop of color on your cake will add chic, subtle detail that won’t overwhelm what will likely be the centerpiece of your menu and focal point of the table.

7. Keep it woodsy

According to Taylor Green of Taylor Elise Events in St. Louis, the outdoors are still in, but in smaller doses. “We’ll also move away from burlap and see more wooden details,” she told WeddingWire, as reported by Refinery29. “Wooden details can include the invitation, table numbers, seating cards, tags, chargers, signage, chairs and tables.”
