Put the spark back into your relationship

After years with the same partner you can sometimes wish for those early exciting days. The spark can fade and you can lose the thrill of a new relationship, but that doesn’t mean it is gone forever. Use these tips to get back that honeymoon feeling.

Happy couple

Date your partner

Remember the long romantic meals, nights at the cinema and walks holding hands? Do you still do that? If no, then you should. Often when people move in together or spend a lot of time with each other, they forget to make quality time for their relationship. Set aside a night a week, or if you are busy once every two weeks, and go on a date. It could be bowling, a meal out or even as simple as going to the pub. A date will remind you both that you should put your relationship first and show you why you fancied each other in the first place.

Surprise sex

Often one of the main things to suffer is your sex life. Don’t let your sex life become predictable — try to spice things up and add some new moves. Surprise your man when he comes home from work by greeting him in your underwear or send him a racy text or picture. Injecting some passion into your relationship will reignite that spark that made you fall for him in the first place.

Spend time apart

Absence makes the heart grow fonder and sometimes what your relationship needs is space. Get a hobby or try something new outside of your couple. There is nothing wrong with a bit of independence from your relationship as long as you make sure it is not creating distance between you. Your enthusiasm and enjoyment for a new hobby will not only make you feel great and give you loads of energy, but it will inspire your partner too.

Share a secret

Tell your partner what you fancied about him when you first met each other. It might seem a little late, but you will be surprised at what the compliment would do for him. Perhaps he didn’t know at the time, or had forgotten that you had said it. Talk about when you first got together and the funny things that might have happened and the memories will remind you of the butterflies you had when you first started dating and may bring them back.

Try something new together

Having a long-term partner gives you someone to share your life with. Take advantage of this and start a new hobby together. Whether it is a sport like golf or sailing or dance classes, trying something new will get you both excited and invigorated. It is easy to fall into a rut in a relationship, so keep it fresh with a new move.
