Portman adopted a vegan diet a couple of years ago after reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s book Eating Animals, which reminded her that “some things are just wrong”. However, in an interview on the Q100 Bert Show in Atlanta, Portman says “I actually went back to being vegetarian when I became pregnant, just because I felt like I wanted that stuff…I was listening to my body to have eggs and dairy and that sort of thing.”

Natalie Portman wants a healthy pregnancy

Without a well-balanced diet, vegans can suffer nutrient deficiencies, particularly when it comes to vitamin B12 and iron. Portman is aware that there are vegan women who remain vegan during pregnancy but she wants to be careful and make sure her unborn baby gets the nutrients it needs for proper development. No news on whether or not Portman will go back to a vegan lifestyle after her baby is born, but we’ll keep you posted.
