Winter Fruit Compote

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup water
  • t

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • t

  • Zest and juice from 1 orange
  • t

  • 2 tablespoons brandy
  • t

  • 1 teaspoon Chinese 5-spice powder or apple pie spice
  • t

  • 1 pound dried whole apricots, quartered
  • t

  • 1 pound ripe, but firm pears, halved, cored, coarsely chopped
  • t

  • 1 cup jumbo raisins

Directions:

  1. In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, stir together water, sugar, brandy, and spices. Bring to a low boil, stirring to dissolve sugar.

  3. Add remaining ingredients, stirring to combine. Bring to a boil then lower heat and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes or until fruit is tender and liquid is thickened.

  5. Serve warm or cool completely and refrigerate.
