Vegetarian Candidates/Issues in the 2010 Election

Seeing as today is voting day in the US I decided that it was appropriate to gather a list of candidates and ballot issues that are relevant to people interested in vegetarianism and animal rights.  I personally would never vote for a candidate based on their deitary decisions, however I find it interesting that there are vegetarian mainstream politicians and that issues of animal rights are being put before voters.  I’m sure that if you live in the areas with these candidates or these ballot initiatives then you probably already know how you’re going to vote (or have already voted since it’s 5:30 on the east coast).

Ballot Issues

Missouri’s Proposition B – A bill that would sharply curtail the number of puppy mills in the state by limiting the number of dogs who could be kept for breeding to 50 while guaranteeing the dogs very basic care.

California’s Proposition 21 – Would create a source of funding to promote wildlife conservation and habitat protection.

North Dakota’s Measure 2 – Will stop the trophy shooting of captive animals behind fences, or “canned hunts,” in which wealthy customers pay to shoot tame, confined, native, and exotic animals—often frightened zoo and circus castoffs who are purchased at auctions.
